Missing Pieces

Classic R&B makes up the soundtrack of my coming-of-age memoir, Missing Pieces, which takes place in 1970s Philadelphia.

The sounds of Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind and Fire, and other classic R&B artists from the ‘70s filled my house growing up. An album was always playing on our stereo that acted as a focal point in our living room.

While writing my memoir Missing Pieces, I found that the story came to me with particular songs attached to scenes. So, music forms the backbone of my memoir—setting the mood and highlighting the action.

On this list are several Philly groups, like the O’Jays, that give a genuine sense of the City of Brotherly Love. My problem was there were so many songs that could make this list. I ended up creating a 10-hour playlist which still left some favorites out. Enjoy my trimmed-down version.
